Dhoni finishes off in style ...

Judgement by MSD-haters reminds me of the appraisal feedback by some stereotypical corporate managers, who couldn't secure a spot in the technical bandwagon and fell off to the other side.

A multi-talented person like MSD, (in every field we have MSDs) can't be judged with the single dimension scale that you have. It will always be a partial and biased view. Such genius DNA comes as a package, it influences different streams and people around .

It is totally OK if you can't follow, because there are so many things in this universe that is beyond reach for any human.

Fastest runner, Captain Cool, lightening stumping , high rate of success in gambling on field, inspiring mentor, good finisher, hard hitter, leader by all means - who helped India to lift WC in all formats, fastest decision maker on field etc are some of the titles he earned in his career.  We may get a better player in some of these aspects in future, may be some combination, but not all, for sure.

The journey of the boy, from the streets of Ranchi to the top of the world is indeed inspiring, so does the announcement of his retirement.

It is another - "Dhoni finishes off in style..." moment, perhaps the last one in international cricket.

Thank you MSD for all your contributions and cherishing memories.  Wishing you all success for your upcoming endeavours.

PayTM: Convenience over Security or myth-buster?

What made PayTM grow so fast in Indian economy?

You may have different answers according to your political bias.  But to me its pure luck.

Indeed, the demonetization of large value currencies boosted the growth; but there are some interesting facts in this move/growth.  PayTM founder received the license “in-principle” as payment banker on August 19th 2015, along with other 7; which included Reliance, India POST, Airtel and Vodafone...

Payment banking have limited set of operations when compared to the normal banks. But Mr Vijay Shekhar Sharma had a clear plan on how to use the facility which he executed well.  Parent company one97 incubated PayTM way back in 2010. They would have been another start-up which tried something and just rolling; but in 2016 demonetization changed the complete game for them.

It’s the cancellation of 500-1000 currencies along with introduction of 2000, which made difference.  People use PayTM for smaller payments; most of the high volume transactions are still done via Banks.  When we got 2000-rupee currency, the next smaller one was 100. So getting change/balance for 2000 rupee was difficult.  Signing up and performing transactions are pretty simple in PayTM, so there is no wonder in the spike seen on the subscription and rolling amount via PayTM in recent financial turmoil.

Now let’s see some facts –

Modus operandi of PayTM:  Compared to the solutions available on market, its unique. But nothing so new about the technology used; it’s a mix of available, convenient methods

Why Banks didn’t try such solution, which is relatively easy to rollout for them:  most probability due to the fact that, bank-to-bank transactions should get enroute RBI. In this case of PayTM, the database is same.  i.e similar to SBI to SBI payment.  When we see more competition for PayTM, mostly it may come from Reliance, it will be the same scenario. PayTM’s goal will be to gain as many customer base as possible before another player walks in to the blue ocean.  For the same reason Mr Mukesh Ambani rolling out the services within no time.  They all are quick decision makers and that’s the secret of their success.

Security of PayTM transactions:  I am not sure about the security of the transport tunnel, so am not commenting on that.  But the interfacing mode is either highly risky or myth-buster; anybody who have access to your mobile can make transactions from your wallet.

Do you remember the message that appears in online banking portals to close the browser after logging off from the banking website?  It is advised to avoid hack into the session of user. That why the banking sessions are timed out if idle for some X minutes.  Well, this can be tricky as well; banks do not want users to consume server resources for longer time.

But let’s assume the statement – live, longer, bank sessions are prune to cyber-attacks, is true, then, on an immature mobile platform, fintech solutions like PayTM will burn your fingers. It’s just a matter of time.   Other the other hand, if it was myth, then it’s better to have more competition in fintech, for better and convenient solutions to the public where “service to general public” is considered as burden than liability.

PS:
The statement – do not trust immature, evolving security technologies, to me, personally sounds like words of wisdom.
I have no intention to defame PayTM or to create panic among its users. I as a user, I am just sharing my thoughts.

Underground bus bay- Answer to “Traffic woes in Bangalore “

Traffic problems in Bangalore need no introduction. I am not going to brag about it here. Instead, I am sharing my observation on the cause for the chaotic condition and some suggestions which I could think of.

Traffic police department in Bangalore is actually doing a good job but they alone can’t manage the city especially when they are less in number. They need to have proper backup from BBMP and BMTC.  Lack of infrastructure and insufficient public transport results in exponential growth in number of private vehicles plying on the road (especially single passenger cars).

As a regular traveler thru the notorious junctions like Tin Factory, K R Puram, Mahadevpura, Marathahalli and Kadubheesanahalli, I have some observations.

  • I am not bored If am waiting in a signal for 5 min (especially if there is timer) but I am tired and angry in snail paced traffic.
  • Most of the congestion is caused by (driving) cultureless drivers. They don’t follow lane traffic and they don’t wait for anyone. In short they don’t think.
  •  In Bangalore we have lot of “X” junctions where we don’t have signal.  X junction is the place where one traveling in left lane want to move to right and the guy on right lane want to come to left.  Tin Factory is the best example for it. Its replicated in all small service road to main road junctions.
  • To make the situation worse, we will have a BMTC bus stop where a ~13-meter long bus will be on halt. Ideally 3-4 such buses will be there. They will block the vehicle movement in junctions.

If we can remove the bus stops from running lane, and install traffic signals at deserving areas, traffic congestion can be avoided to a great extent. But in a city like Bangalore, we don’t have space left near main roads to have separate bus bay. So the only option left out is to go vertically!

Yea, build either flyovers or underpasses.  In most of the area we have flyovers. So building another one may not be feasible.

So what can’t we go with underground bus bay?!

Here let’s see the example of Marathahalli junction, direction towards silk board.
At this junction we have the typical ‘X’ road, and a bus stop. This junction in ORR is super busy all the time as it has 3-4 tech parks and lot of commercial establishments.

Proposal:

Let’s build an underpass bus bay (in every congested place like this).  The X junction can be placed on top of the bus bay. And instead of a 90-degree angle connecting road (from service road to ORR), let’s build it at 120-130 degree, this ensures smooth migration of vehicles.

The vehicles coming from service road will continue left lane where buses will take right lane into the underground bus bay. Similarly, the buses in ORR will take left lane to enter the underground bus bay.
Other vehicles can use other lanes on right side. Vehicles from service road will enter ORR over bus-bay, so we won’t lose any space due to bus stops and other vehicles won’t be blocked due to improper parking of buses.

Please share your thoughts on the same. I am not sure whether the concerned department will take this seriously. but in case if they are considering it, I am confident that it can bring in some positive change.

Please pass this blog, if you like the concept so that it may reach the apt people or departments.

Thank you!

Infrastructure development bypassing the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats

Infrastructure development is a key sector in which we have to have tremendous growth in upcoming years. Directly and indirectly it creates lot of opportunities. When the total wealth is considered, India is 7th richest country on earth but we don’t have the infrastructure facilities that can be compared with other 9 countries in top 10. Even after 69 years of independence and being rich, we could not make any advancement in this sector. What could be the reason?

To me, it’s a 2 simple things

  1. No visionaries, lack of commitment towards people and development of country, among political parties
  2. Corrupt or hijacked bureaucrats

A development model which bypasses these 2 clusters can lead country. But from where can we adopt one?
Well, I believe that we have solutions for our problems around us, we just need to have open eyes and ears to identify and tailor them for our needs.

You witnessed how Flipkart transformed eCommerce sector in India. Now we have bigger players like Amazon in market. The tight competition among these companies provides better deals to the customers.

But how did they cut the cost? (let’s forget the promotional offers they have)
They simply eliminated the middle men.
Why can’t we follow that model in infrastructure development activities?

Who are the middlemen in our case? The corrupt politicians and Government officials.

Let’s consider this by an example a particular city/village need more public transport. It can be trains or more buses. Let’s go with simple solution - bus.  Say they need 10 buses for their area. At present, the department accountable for the same may not have enough budget or it may be under the control of the negative elements I mentioned earlier.  In any case, the request won’t be addressed.
Now let’s look at the bigger picture. In India, there may be hundreds of thousands of villages or cities.  So we have a centralized agency, which can order 5000 buses, which they can get at very discounted price, can solve the problem.

Govt office hierarchy that is designed to load balance and distribute the work, does not seems to be effective. We need an alternate bottom-up approach to have faster resolutions for our problems.

Bottom-up approach:
The requests from people has to reach the Govt directly via online portal and mobile applications (central or state) first. This way, Govt will have a clear picture of the overall needs in short time. Govt can handover the tasks directly to the companies with whom they have agreement.  There we need an agency to follow-up the tasks and complete them on time.

In this approach the control and monitoring is done from top level.  The offices in the hierarchy has to support the tasks when it comes to them.  The bureaucrats are answerable for the delay and rejection of the task which is controlled by upper management. (similar to the pvt company work)

This parallel organization approach will increase the competition and helps us to filter out the weeds from Govt services.

KA HC quashes unconstitutional road tax law: what next?

Finally ….

Finally court agreed “in-principle” that it makes some sense to pay only for the Masala Dosa we “ate” (read that story here).

But are we done? Not yet; IMO.

In fact we are an inch close to our target.

Well, what’s your target?!
Oh yea, for the new readers, it’s “ONE INDIA ONE TAX”

Sounds great; can you explain it in a sentence?
Sure. In our country, one should have freedom to drive their vehicle in any state for any duration by paying life time tax (15 years) only once.

Hmm, it make sense. But I was told that the 1988 Motor vehicle act is somewhat similar to what you say.
Similar? May be, but not same. That’s the problem.

According to 1988 act, one can ply vehicle in any state for 11 months after which they have to re-register the vehicle in new state where it’s used.  Here the catch is, rule is instructing the owner ONLY to re-register and not asking to pay the lump sum; but at the same time it says the re-registration in new state is subjected the rules of the state.  So in the rule book of states, they clearly mentioned, one has to pay the LTT again to register the vehicle in their state and the owner can ask for refund from previous state.

Well, we all know how Govt offices work in our country and how easy it is to get refund.

So, what’s your stand on this?
1988 act, a 28 year old law, has its own disadvantages and it’s time to reread them. According to current trend, migration to a new state is very swift and our law should be able to handle it.

Can you brief the changes you envision?
It should happen someway like the following:
When a citizen buy a vehicle from State ‘A’ ,  let the state Govt collect tax for 15 years (as it is now) as per their tax slab. When the citizen moves from state ‘A’ to ‘B’, the individual will update the same in central Govt’s portal.  Say this is happening after 2 years, state ‘A’ should calculate the tax amount they actually deserve for 2 years and transfer the rest of the amount to state ‘B’. Repeat the same when citizen moves from ‘B’ to ‘C’. When the tax amount becomes 0, say in 13 years due to the difference in tax % charges by different states, we will have an option to top-up the tax for next 2 years. With this method, respective states will have the tax amount they deserve.

Why a central Govt portal is required for this? Can’t we simply change the address in RC book as per the law available now?

No. we need central Govt portal because:
  • Greedy state Govt’s may not exchange the actual data
  • Existing law demands, address proof in new place when we switch. It is conveniently forgetting the fact that, one can use any vehicle which may be in their parent/sibling/friend’s name, just like mobile phone. So citizens will be FORCED to create fake proofs. Let’s be realistic.
  • In addition, to change address, we need NOC from financier, which most of the banks won’t give, even though the person who took loan is still staying in same place.
  • Cash exchange between states can happen under the supervision of central Govt with deadlines.

Alright; to avoid the topup complexity why can’t we have flat % for all states?
It will be an injustice to most of the states; compare states Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to Goa or Pondicherry; how can we ask them to pay same amount of tax to drive within their state?

OK, before we conclude this conversation, you repeated the word “WE” in many places, who all are the “WE” here?
We means all Indian citizen who is affected.

What is Life Time Tax [LTT] issue?

It’s simple as buying special masala dosa!

Confused?

Let me explain.

Assume you are walk-in to a nearby breakfast counter and ordering a masala dosa (hotel menu reads it cost 45 INR for one special masala dosa including tax). So you decided to have one and ordered it. Now the cashier is giving you a bill of 243000 INR!!!

WTF!!!

Yes, that’s what most us think. Now the shop owner is with me to explain. According to him, as mentioned in menu a masala dosa cost 45 rupees only including tax. But ….

“There are 30 days in a month and such 12 months are there in a year. “Life-time” is considered as 15 years in our system, so the amount 2, 43,000/- is the cost of spl masala dosa for 15 years. “

I can read your mind; let me guess it.

“What on earth made you to think that I will daily have masala dosa and that too from this shop?
What is the guarantee that I will be around this place for next 15 years?
What is the guarantee that the shop will be there for 15 years or me living for next 15 years?
Why can’t you just charge for what I eat, every time?"

Yes. That’s exactly what we are asking for.

We already paid the so-called life time tax in one state of INDIA. Ideally we should be able to drive anywhere in India without issues. We are ready to inform authorities about the vehicle transfer (if at all it happens from one state to another). It is the responsibility of states to transfer the tax money collected to respective state. Their incapability is turned out as burden on common-people.

What exactly is this “BURDEN”? to understand this, will go back to the masala dosa.

Somehow you agreed (or forced) to pay 243000 to him and next morning you went to another shop which serves English breakfast. An English breakfast cost a bit more than masala dosa and menu reads 80 INR. You are at the cash counter and took a 100 rupees note & the cashier gave you a bill of 432000/-

“Are you mad?”

Yes, the new shop owner ALSO had the same story (30x12x15) to tell.

“But I just paid 243000 yesterday”

“hmmm.., may be true, we did not get it. You do one thing, pay me 432000 now and get a refund from that guy as you are not eating from there”

Just think: two breakfast in different hotel costing me around 6.75 LAKH INR!!!

An interstate transfer, if not within days, is no different from breakfast from two different hotels, as mentioned above.

Public transport in Bengaluru

If you ask anyone in Bengaluru about the biggest challenge they are facing today, it will be...

Well, there are many problems.

Right from- garbage, lack of foot paths, potholes in roads, pathetic traffic problems, inadequate public transport, water problems, high cost of living and the list continues

Here I would like to draw your attention to the traffic problems in Bengaluru.

How do we tackle the imbalance in number of vehicles in road and the area of good quality road?
Either we may have to create new roads and maintain the existing roads in good condition or reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

Since “Srishti” and “Sthithi” are not in our hands (I mean the roads) , lets discuss about “Samhara”, the destruction of number of vehicles plying in the road.

Just look around, you will see lot of cars with one driver-cum-owner.
No, No, No. I am NOT talking about carpooling here.

As we all know, these vehicles snatches extra area on road when ratio calculated with number of passengers to vehicle area.   So to optimize the road usage, we may have to move to public transport.

from google
Gustavo Petro, Mayor of Bogota, Columbia, rightly said – “A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation"

So why we are not opting for public transport?
Answer is simple –the transport system in place is not adequate to meet the demand.

What can WE DO?

Most of the companies have their own cab service and some of them don’t have it. Use them! is the simplest answer. But yea, I understand, It is really tough to wake up early morning in refrigerating climate and heading to office is indeed a tough call for many and some may have to stretch extra hours in evening or simply, the cab time does not match with your schedule [as most of them operate in 6-7.30 am time-frame].

What if there is always a bus service from your bus stop to tech park & back?  I mean all the time including peak hours? Will you switch to public transport?

Yes/No ?!

Think about these advantages
  • What if you have dedicated seat in bus?
  • What if you you can board the bus from your nearest bus stop in morning, any time, based on your preference?
  • What if you can board the bus from your tech park in evening?
  •  What if you can change point to a new location for a day and board another bus to home (like BMTC)  after your business?
  • You have a mobile app to book a seat in a bus which goes through your area, like you book cab or auto nowadays?
  •  Mobile App notifies you when your bus arrives
  •  It gives you flexibility to change boarding time, if you have to stay back in office
  •  Pay online – no need to carry change. No rude bus conductors!

What private players like REDBUS/OLA/OTHER can do?
As they are already into this business, they can collect the data from employees online

  • About the routes they commute daily.
  • About the approximate time-slot they prefer to travel
  • Pick up and drop points in main road on-demand basis

What is the advantage if we have an external player?
  • Private players need profit and hence they are forced to provide quality service
  • As they scale, all companies in Tech parks will be covered and as a result of that number of private cars/bikes on road will reduce drastically
  • They are open for suggestions and queries/complaints over phone or online

PS:
  • I wrote this keeping Bengaluru in mind but it can be implemented in all cities.
  • I don’t want to start this business and I wanted to have this in place, so sharing it and expecting someone like REDBUS/OLA/OTHER to materialize it.

Vacation or Picnics in INDIA

I was always envious towards the vacations/picnics of foreigners; specially when I see the beautiful pictures. I was always wondering why we (Indians) not even making attempt towards this as this little glee can make a big difference in our life.

When I say vacation, its not the bachelor trips. It was there since years.
Things are changing now and thanks to technology for that. I understood (may be wrongly) that its lack of infrastructure that prevented many from making suck trips (though they had money to make it) .

In my childhood if we want to make a trip to totally new place where we never been to, the only way out was to check with nearby travels or check availability of known people in that locality for inquiry. then, we have to manage with whatever they provide which am so sure is not the best!
now things changed drastically, we have mobile apps to see the tourist spots across country , guides on Dos and Don'ts, way to reach there, provision to find apt travel plan, pay safely from home, see the place before we plan, contact numbers in case of emergency etc.

But still I feel something is missing!

Making a trip to Wayanad, Kozhikkod, Aleppy, Munnar and Trivandrum (from Kochi) which are all Tier I tourist spots (people from all over globe visit such places) is not what I meant by picnics. we need to develop infrastructure for Tier II and Tier III or even IV places so that vacations will be peaceful and all will get their private spaces. [Like we can have private resorts in Tier I tourist spots which is costly]
We equipped with technology to promote any new place but we do lack in infrastructure. We don't want big investment like acres of private land or big resorts in all places. In my opinion, we need cheap, small but beautiful hangout places for a family and non-drinkers (for alcoholic any place with a bottle will be more than sufficient!).

My thoughts:

1. Kerala has 44 rivers (in paper) , so if you have a land close to any of the river, from where you have awesome view, keep the nature intact and make small seating arrangements and make provision to have food and sanitation. Device safely measures in case if someone want to enter the river.

2. If you have old traditional house with some land, rework on it, convert it into a beautify picnic spot where a family or two can spend a day happily.

3. If you live in a city and there are lot of waste/unused land available with Govt. Call for a society meeting and discuss how can you convert that land into a small tourist spot. Come up with a plan and contact Govt officials and get it done. [don't plan for building construction or similar activities where there are chances to have dispute in future. so govt may not give any permission]

4. Organize art/sports/Performing events in available open houses. Open air- amphi theatres are not only for party meetings and religious programs. use them effectively.

5. Popularize local events/celebrations/interesting programs so that more people can reach-out for a different experience.

In short, Let us NOT fight on our diversities & make money out of it and enjoy life.
Note: This is applicable for all states in India. find-out things related to your tradition, culture and present infrastructure and plan.

Create Opportunities.

Interstate usage of private vehicles

This blog post will list down the issues in present law followed by RTOs in various states and examples how they(RTO officers) manipulate things to trouble common people.

At the end there are few suggestions, the changes , as citizen , I want to see in Surface Transport ministry which mandates every state in India to follow them religiously.

Problem statement:

Working class citizen who has transferrable job is undergoing a great pain due to stringent Motor vehicle law. they will have to re-register their vehicle by paying a huge amount  as Road tax (close to 1 Lakh for 2 year Swift/Ritz type car); refund from parent state is a nightmare.

According to transport ministry rules, anyone who is using a vehicle outside the registered state more than 11 months, they will have to re-register the vehicle in new state (example: a vehicle initially registered in Kerala used in Karnataka more than 11 months..)

When re-registration happens we have to pay Lifetime tax , for 15 years, in new state and get refund from previous state.  I believe this rule is created to

  • collect road tax amount according the usage of the vehicle (in state) &
  • to prevent usage of vehicles which are registered in places like Pondicherry where the road tax % is less (so people register luxury cars in Pondicherry and drive in cities like Bangalore where road tax % is very high)

Karnataka Govt overruled this law with another in Feb 2014; according new Karnataka law, any vehicle which is in Karnataka border more than 30 days (original by central govt is 11 months) must re-register and pay LTT.

Central Govt rule

news in paper that explains the pathetic condition of citizen

This minutes of meeting never became law:  url

Present situation in Bangalore, Karnataka

Karnataka RTO officials are seizing cars that are not KA registration. Owners has to pay LTT to get their vehicle back.

Even they are stopping and seizing private cars that are in city for vacation. they are deaf to the explanations and proofs produced during the inspection. The tourer has to go to RTO office and explain the same story there to get the vehicle back. In short, it mess up the complete trip mood.

Queries to the authorities

As a responsible citizen, if one decides to pay LTT and get the vehicle re-registered in new state, there are few things that will prevent someone from doing it.

Most of the citizen would have taken bank loan for car in their parent state. now read the queries to know why it is mission impossible (as per current law)

Q1) what are those documents that are considered as PROOF that can be show, in case if stopped by RTO officers as part of their “NON-KA vehicle seizer drive” if one is visiting the city for a week or two?

Q2) How does a person can bring in his/her car to Karnataka and drive here for 2-3 years if they have an outstanding loan against the vehicle?

Before answering the question 2, please consider the following points:

  • Karnataka RTO says to pay LTT if the vehicle is used more than 30 days in city [central government law says its 11 months]
  • LTT will not be refunded if the vehicle is not registered in Karnataka (for a 0-2 yr old car of 5L the tax amount will come around 1 Lakh)
  • To re-register a vehicle in Karnataka, RTO demands a NOC/consent letter from Bank which they will not give before loan closure.
Q3) how can a person use his/her relatives/friend’s outstation vehicle in city for more than a month?
(as the owner is not in Bangalore, we can't produce the local addresses proof of owner and since it is for a shorter duration it is not practical to pay hefty  LTT which is not refundable)
[e.g. If I am taking my sister's Kerala registration car to Bangalore when she accompanies her husband to Dubai for his official assignment for an year or two]

These are all valid scenarios and we are not criminals.  we are driving a vehicle that we bought with hard earned money. we are ready to pay road tax to any state as per our usage. but don't loot us with your outdated laws. If you don't have a law that can solve our problems , create one!

Suggestions:

Few points to be noted:

  • The motor vehicle act rules are created in 1988 and live style of citizen changed alot since then
  • we have floating population and cosmopolitan lifestyle in major cities like Bangalore who changes city within 2-3 years

  1. Introduce non-fundable annual road tax for other state vehicles
  2. Revoke the mandate on re-registration in new state if used for more than 11 months (1 month in case of Karnataka) [anyway the vehicle has some identity as it is registered in some part of India and if needed, for tracking purpose,  state RTO can get a declaration statement about usage plan in new state]
  3. Implement the discussion point, flat 6% or more for all vehicles in all states and no additional tax payment in new state if it is registered in another state.
  4. Remove the hassle of NOC from financier or make it simple for valid users
  5. Accept documents like affidavits or other power of attorney kind of legal documents in place of address proof in new location (needed if the vehicle is registered in spouse/parent/relative's name)

Come on guys, its not rocket science, make the law ligt and close to people and make punishments harder for offences and violations. Let the good citizen have peaceful and pleasant life.

Thanks for your time. Drop your comments and I shall revisit my suggestions if I found its better.

Cheers!

Debates or Discussions (my policy)

For any debate/discussions there MUST be at least two goals

  • After the discussion all should be in same page
  • Actual goal stated by the host

A discussion can be considered as success if we achieve both the goals and they are same!

Its like a jigsaw puzzle, we all come with one or more pieces of a big picture; during the discussion
we exchange them; we analyze them; and finally we try to place them in order.
At the end we get the correct big picture. So ultimately the final picture will not look like the piece one had; but indeed the picture will be complete only with the one piece we had.

AND

Of course there are chances that we don't get the original big picture in shape mostly because of the quality of debate; in that case we are unfortunate and it was a waste of time. we might have moved horizontally than vertically that we expected; THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT the one piece I had (or you had) is the big picture.

If the case is different, What is the difference between a discussion and a broadcast message then?

If you disagree on this, you can ask queries, you can prove me wrong; I will be happy if my point is proven wrong; because I will have something to learn from that!

It may kill my "Aham" bhava. but its ok  I can take it in that spirit

Curated e-newspaper

Indeed it’s the time where digital media rules and all are stepping towards e-reading.
Having said that, it’s also true, reading a physical news-paper in morning with a cup of hot coffee or tea is a special feeling.

Oh boy, we forget. Global warming, the evergreen buzz word, how can we forget that?  To have physical paper we need to cut trees and waste pure water in aplenty. So (or we all) are against that. So what do we do?

You might have heard of curated web, similarly why can not we have a curated e-papers?  A customized new paper brings only that news in which we are interested. It can be local news, sports, education, events, arts related, innovation, science, technology front; end of my thinking capacity!

All users will have at least one custom profile; they will insert the magic-sheet [refer the definition below] into the printer and they select their profile and print the paper. It will also be possible to read those contents in your laptop, mobile, iPad, tablet and blah blah blah.

This opens up a news arena for advertising, advertisements will go only to those guys who are interested in specific fields. Say as an engineer I am interested in technical gadgets and I am subscribed to the technical news; being a leading Smartphone maker, Samsung will be happy to push his advertisement column to me rather than giving it to a person who have technophobia.  This method improves their hit-ratio and reach-to-apt-audience; ensures the value-for-money.

Now what?! As you know, every company spends a huge amount for public presence and advertisements. If they can achieve what they are targeting with lesser money, then they would cut-down the product price.   Sounds good. Isn’t it?

So why can’t we have one?

Technical description (rather expectation)

Magic-sheet:

It is made up of artificial components, decomposable, degradable, and recyclable.  It changes its color to white, to make it suitable for better reading, when a specific amount of heat, electricity or X (can be any thing) passes though it, like the dial in digital watches, only few portions turn dark dude to crystal rearrangements when electricity pass through it.

partiality

Yesterday was just another day, nothing much unusual  except the ten minutes delay n train which is quite natural with Indian railway.

As the train gain momentum, I happened to notice the wall that read "God helps the humble & punishes the arrogant", the one forced me to wear the thinking cap again.

Its humble men's practice to thank god after remarkable achievement in their life, irrespective of the religion or race. It is said that in each victory, 50% of the share goes to the person and so does to thee. So ....
If the 50% share, god's, is constant, then its the remaining pie that makes the difference; so IMO there is nothing wrong if the individual show-off. But if its not fixed, then its god who exhibits some form of partiality.

any takers?!

tablet computers

And now we know that the world is heading towards the tablet computers. So what’s your pick?

Its pretty simple question for some of you, the one loves brand will have the obvious, either iPAD or Samsung Note.  But how many of you think beyond it? How many of you can think about your needs?
It’s a matter of fact that most of us are not using the facilities that are available in our cell phone or the desktop. But when you look at west, you could see the big line on the launch day to grab their favorite, similar one you can spot outside out liquor shops; is that only reason why we choose the same?  They have money so do we; they choose Apple or sample so do we!!!

You may argue that quality is different in each; I do agree; being a quality engineer by profession I have no second thought about it. But for me, the questions are “who are you, what your needs are and what’s your budget?” here I must admit that even I failed to explore all the features that were available in my cell phones. [I used almost all feature in my first phone, Nokia 1110i, still its up and running]. You think about your needs; is it like you don’t want waste a second when receive an email? Or you want to stay plugged in to all networking sites where you have a gate pass? Or you just want to surf net occasionally?

Have you ever thought of your privacy? Personally I dot not like someone peep into my personal life, where am going, whom I am meeting, what am I doing… why the hell someone else want to know all these?
I can share some memories; the one I feel is ok if go public. But it’s unlike some other’s – I checked in here, having coffee with XYZ and heading towards hell in a car and its plate read blah blah blah …

Back to the context; what’s your pick?

For those who are not brand conscious and consider their needs before jump out for something that selling overseas, here you have two options; indeed the ones can fit your pockets; HCL ME and Micromax fun-book, priced under 8K with android version 4, ice-cream sandwich , specially designed for tablet computers. Both have 7” screen and 512 RAM. [You may think 512 is not enough to power a tablet, I have a cell phone with 3.75” screen and 150 RAM; its doing OK and sometime its bit slow; a 256 would be enough for my cell and 512 is apt for these tablets; but having said that, it is true that this is not enough for gaming].

All of them primarily targets students up to 10+2. I believe that if a device can work well in student’s hand then it can work will all; because students are the one always think out of box always and does stuffs which are  beyond its reach. So I hope, soon we can see our little brothers and sisters carrying just a tablet with them while entering school.

The hypothesis on recursive call of life :: An attempt to understand the secret of life

We are living in smart environment where we digitize all possible mundane tasks that could ease our life. We have replication for every action that we see in our environment; or rather I’ll say our inventories are just copies of the fundamentals from our environment. Whatever we discovered so far is in our world, may be slightly in different format, so it will be in future.

Now the thought- similar to the ZEN story, what if, over generations or rather over various phases of lives, we just copied what existed? We always have queries about the creator of this universe; theories about GOD and EVIL.

Now think about this:
“We are developing many technologies and features and we are developing Robots. For them, electricity and the kernel code are the two major components of their life. Electricity is that they need to function- the energy source and they got motors which functions on electricity; there is a micro-kernel code or the machine code, the program we written that determines their intelligence, behavior and every single action.  Though they have super calculation powers with which they can calculate what will happen next, they are not equipped to change it since the control is in our hands”.

The case is same with our life, isn’t it? Man proposes god disposes!

We will have big plans for a day or for an event, but simply, we won’t make it, just as robots fail.

Bagavat Gita says – “What is yours today, belonged to someone else yesterday, and will belong to someone else the day after tomorrow” and “Whatever happened, happened for the good; whatever is happening, is happening for the good; whatever will happen, will also happen for the good only” how can someone be so sure about it?

I always wondered how come such big books, Mahabharata and Ramayana survived the environmental changes, the language changes and other stuff I can’t list here (I do not know all of them). It is possible if the creator want to pass down some information to us; indeed it can survive all these problems.

Tell me why do we need computers or robots? After all we are teaching them, coding them what to do, how to do and when to do.  The answer is – “though we are capable of doing many things, we are not fully capable of doing all of them”. So we created computers and robots to solve the problems we have; similarly in future robots may create something new to solve issues they have until the very question is answered.

It is a chain, a chain of lives; as in programming we have recursive functions which call itself with different set of parameters which also will have logic to end the recursive calls.
Someone, more than a single GOD and SATAN, who created us, may also have so-called GOD & SATAN. It’s a chain and we - humans are in “Nth” position and robots may be in N+1. Those who were in N-1 position had skill to develop the various species that we are seeing now.

So what was/is the problem that level-1 species faced which forced them to design such a beautiful chain process?

If we consider the fact that we are still alive to get the results of our program then where are they now, the level-1 species, the root node GOD or SATAN?

Can we do some debugging? Understand the logic that stops this recursive call? May be that will answer the question “what is the meaning of our life?”

Hope

Just as Mr. K.M.Soni last escort vehicle left, I noticed a man coughing vigorously because of the smoke and dust that the series of corollas and innovas had left behind. A second glance at that man left a mark in my brain. His physique told a tale that was quite contradictory to the politician who just left.

He was very much a bag of bones and hollow cheeks often rubbing his tired face on the loose sleeves. I can still remember his sunken eyes that told a story of its own-a story of struggle and Satyagraha.  They were magnified so shoddily with the spectacles he wore. Those eyes still held the hope - hope for a change...

Then I noticed the little board he was carrying and the contents it held "Water for Tamilians & safety for Malayalees”.

I was still coming out of the Christmas hangover even though it was past noon. Thanks to my dear Amigos who always ensure that I keep on floating in the dream world for at least 14 hours especially because now I am a free bird with no more court martial at home. And I could not blame them completely; last night was too icy as well.

As I crossed the same place the next day, my eyes still searched for him. I don’t precisely know the reason though. .I found some newspapers, spectacles and a pair of shoes, unattended and shattered.

“Oh my god, what a night it was?! It’s the first time, may be the record low I ever hit. Just now I managed to start my jeep. Horrible! ” I overheard someone.

My wait was meaningless, though digested slowly, mechanically I was walking towards my car.

Poor guy! Why and for whom?

For the 3.5 million innocents, who will get swept away in their sleep, from earth within no time? Or, was that for the political opportunist, the puppet-show masters?

Its getting late for me, miles to go…

Then, you won the world with AHIMSA but now..?!

I am hoping for a better tomorrow and gearing up; and I have taken good care of the spectacles and the old board placed over side seat.

My journey continues...
